I am Dr. Marija Koprivica Lelicanin, a researcher, professor and academic leader. With over 20 years of experience in academic and pedagogical work, I have built a distinguished career at the intersection of philology, media studies, and academic leadership. Currently, I am a professor at the SAE Institute in Milan, an accredited art academy (AFAM), where I lead the "Media Theories and Methods" (Teoria e metodo dei media) department
Throughout my career, I have held significant international leadership roles, including serving as the Academic Coordinator at the SAE Institute Belgrade and as a General Secretary of the Chamber of Italian-Serbian Enterpreneurs. My expertise in international educational standards is further evidenced by my leadership in the global accreditation processes for the SAE Institute network in collaboration with Middlesex University and the University of Hertfordshire.
Academic Background & Journey
My academic journey began at the University of Belgrade, where I earned my PhD in Philology with a focus on metadiscourse in contemporary Italian academic and newspaper articles. My research interests are deeply rooted in Linguistic Pragmatics, (Critical) Discourse Analysis, and the Semiotics of modern culture.
A central pillar of my journey has been my long-standing connection with Italy. I completed my Master’s degree in Trieste and have held multiple prestigious fellowships from the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, specializing in Italian language and culture at the Universities of Perugia, Siena, and Venice.
My work bridges the gap between traditional linguistics and the digital age. I have authored two major monographs published by the renowned Italian house UTET Torino:
Studiare i creative media (2023) – A co-authored study on research methodology in creative media.
Leggere i media. Teorie, strumenti e pratiche (2025) – A solo monograph on media theory, exploring media literacy through the lens of linguistics and case studies from Italian culture.
My international impact is also reflected in my mentorship; I have mentored hundreds of undergraduate and dozens of master’s students globally, with my mentees publishing their work with prestigious houses like Routledge.
